Andrew Dillon

Andrew Dillon matriculated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Music Education in K-12 Strings. Andrew was the recipient of the JSU Orchestra & Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships. Mr. Dillon has been studying violin for over 25 years. Mr. Dillon’s musical beginnings began in an Americana band with his father and siblings, known as The Dillonaires. His primary instrument is violin, but he also plays the bass guitar, guitar, a little piano, and some ukulele. Andrew currently performs under the moniker “Amazin’ Lazy Boi” and specializes in Blues, Top 40, Hip-Hop, and Rock. Mr. Dillon’s favorite musical accomplishments include 2008-2012 JSU Concertmaster, 2013 & 2016 Cali Blues Festival performer (The Dillonaires), and 2019 National Blues Challenge Competitor (Chicken Shack Band).
Andrew is a firm believer that every child has a fundamental right to have access to classical music education. Mr. Dillon has five years of general music education experience and seven years of experience conducting youth orchestras in Jackson, MS & Raleigh, NC. Though Mr. Dillon began his career as a performing musician, his passion for teaching general music was invigorated while he was an educator in the Wake County Public Schools System. Andrew began a position as a general music teacher for a non profit, after school music program that focused on teaching music through social change in Title I schools. Mr. Dillon honed his skills as a brilliant performer in his teachings through fun and engaging methods. With a new focus on classroom management, Mr. Dillon's teachings allowed students to participate and navigate in an extraordinarily active, safe, and fun way.
Mr. Dillon soared in his general music position and quickly advanced as a Mozart (Beginner Violin) Principal Teaching Artist, Raleigh's advanced orchestra conductor, and advanced violin and viola teaching artist. Andrew is enthused to bring his experience, knowledge, and education back to his hometown of Jackson, MS, where he is confident that- with the help and support of the community, he can do his part in building on Jackson, Mississippi's strong traditions of Education, Social Justice, and Music through instrumental music, song and dance.
